CATEGORIES OF CAP-ACP MEMBERSHIP

The categories of membership as defined in the constitution of the CAP are as follows:

Ordinary Members
Graduates in Medicine and who are licensed to practice in a Canadian province and who are:
  1. certified by or hold fellowship in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or le Collège des médecins du Québec in some recognized branch of laboratory medicine, or
  2. in possession of credentials which in the opinion of the Membership Chair are the equivalent of paragraph (a) above, or
  3. in possession of special skills and knowledge by virtue of a minimum of four (4) years' training in a medical laboratory science not recognized by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or le Collège des médecins du Québec and who the Membership Chair shall consider as possessing qualifications equivalent to paragraphs (a) and (b) above.
Ordinary members have all rights and privileges including holding office, chairing committees and voting at all meetings.

Associate Members
(a) Graduates in medicine, residing in Canada and certified by holding fellowship in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or le Collège des médecins du Québec in specialties other than the laboratory sciences but who have an interest in certain aspects of Pathology; or

b) Holder of an appropriate academic degree other than medicine, reside in Canada and who are recognized as authorities in their science and whose membership would further the aims and objectives of the Association.

Junior Members
Medical students presently enrolled in a Medical School in Canada or graduates in medicine who have been accepted into a training program in Pathology or the subspecialties of Laboratory Medicine which have been approved by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Members in this category shall have their membership reviewed after completion of their training program and upon application to the Association in the prescribed form may be transferred to Ordinary membership on payment of the appropriate fee.
First year - No charge;
Second year until residency is completed - C$38.00 per year
Corresponding Members
Graduates in medicine, certified in pathology in a foreign country by an internationally recognized certifying body and/or whose major practice is devoted to pathology.
