Recertification Process:

Upon successful PA(CCCPA-CCCAP) certification, each member will be required to participate in the CCCPA Competency Maintenance Program (CMP). This program is mandatory for members and requires the completion of a minimum of 60 Continuing Education (CE) Credits every three (3) years in order to maintain PA certification (Note: the 15 credit/year annual requirement has been removed).

Of the  60 CE credits, 30 credits must be in the subject area of Anatomic Pathology, 1 credit in Laboratory or Patient Safety, and remaining credits in Other Areas of Interest relating to your laboratory practice. If members fail to participate in the CMP, PA certification will no longer be valid after the end of the three-year CMP cycle.

Members who fail to fulfill the CMP requirements will have their names removed from the list of certified Pathologists’ Assistants on the CCCPA website.  When a member is approaching the end of their three-year CMP cycle, they must submit an application for recertification.

Make sure your contact information is up to date!  Send your new email to: info@cccpa-cccap.org

Steps for completing recertification:

  1. Complete 60 CE Credits every three years and track all activities on the CCCPA CE Tracking Log and Declaration Form, which is a fillable PDF form.  Activities are awarded CE Credits based on the CMP CE Credit Allocation Guidelines chart.
  2. Save supporting documents for all CE activities and retain all original certificates of completion. Appropriate forms of CE documentation are outlined on the CMP Activity Documentation Guidelines chart. Documents should be saved for a period of 12 months following the end of your CMP cycle.  Only if your declaration form is selected for audit will these documents be required by the CCCPA for review (see Audit Process in CMP & Recertification Guide).
  3. Prior to December 31st at the end of your CMP cycle, complete the CCCPA CE Tracking Log and Declaration Form. The completed form should be printed, signed, and scanned into PDF format.  Recertification dates are provided on the List of Certified PAs on the CCCPA website.  Please refer to the Recertification FAQ page for details as to when your CMP cycle starts and ends.
  4. Upload your completed CCCPA CE Tracking Log and Declaration Form to the CCCPA using the following link: Application for CCCPA Recertification. You will be required to update your contact information and provide information regarding your PA practice during the online submission process (Note: This is a change from the previous email submission process).
  5. Pay the applicable Recertification or Late Recertification Fee after completing the online Application for CCCPA Recertification.  There will be a link to the payment website provided once you submit the application form.  Note: You must pay the appropriate fee before your application for recertification will be reviewed.   After submitting payment, you will receive an email confirmation which can be used as temporary proof of PA certification, pending final approval.
  6. The member’s recertification application will be reviewed by the CCCPA within 30 days of receipt.  If deficiencies are identified, the member will be notified via email and will have 30 days to correct/address any issues.  If no deficiencies are identified or deficiencies are resolved, the member will receive a confirmation letter via email on official letterhead, providing final proof of PA certification which will be valid   for three (3) years.  The List of Certified PAs on the CCCPA website will be updated with the member’s new recertification date.
