CAP-ACP Develops New Mission Statement

At its 2010 Annual Meeting in Montreal, the Canadian Association of Pathologists (Association canadienne des pathologistes) unveiled a new mission statement.

Old Mission Statement:

The Canadian Association of Pathologists is a voluntary professional organization of laboratory physicians and scientists. The CAP's mission is to provide national leadership in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine through the promotion of excellence in practice, education and research, and through the fostering of integrity and high standards of ethical behaviour. The CAP aims to provide continuing professional development to all subgroups within its membership. The CAP will also advocate for high quality and standards for patient care, promote collegiality and advocate for the professional interests of laboratory physicians and scientists.

New Mission Statement:

The Canadian Association of Pathologists (Association canadienne des pathologistes), a voluntary professional organization, advances the interests of our profession and promotes high quality standards for patient care by providing national leadership and promoting excellence in pathology and laboratory medicine practice, education and research.

How Change Happened:

In November 2009, a Mission Statement Committee was struck, with Dr. C. Naugler (Calgary, AB) as chair.

What Has Been Changed:

The new mission statement is shorter.
