WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This course is open to all Canadian trainees, US trainees, CAP-ACP resident members as well as non-members and pathologists. Priority will be given to PGY5 and PGY4 residents who are members of the CAP-ACP. Limited availability is also extended to non MD Laboratory Professionals at a fee of $175 per day.

OBJECTIVES

An experienced faculty team has been assembled to collaborate on the topics and presentation of the course material to provide attendees with a practical review of major topics in the specialty of Anatomical Pathology. Your faculty of skilled pathologists will focus on what you need to know in preparation for the examination.

At the end of the meeting participants will be able to:

  1. Review and update core medical knowledge in preparation for the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification examinations in Anatomic Pathology, General Pathology, and Hematological Pathology.
  2. Develop strategies for optimal preparation and exam performance in the written, practical, and oral components of the examination, and understand examination formats
  3. Discuss and assess the significance of new findings and observations in the context of current literature
  4. Demonstrate competence in the non-medical expert CanMEDS roles, in particular laboratory management and quality assurance

The Canadian Association of Pathologists’/Association canadienne des pathologistes Residents Review Course is accredited by the Canadian Association of Pathologists. This event is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification program of The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

SPEAKER INFORMATION

Thank you for your participation in the Resident Review Course, January 10 - 13, 2019. The Resident Review Course is an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, approved by the Canadian Association of Pathologists. 

To meet the accreditation requirements all presenters are required to submit some information to the organizers.

Documents Required Prior to Congress

CPD Requirements for Your Presentation
At the beginning of your presentation, you must verbally notify the audience of any real or apparent conflict(s) of interest that may have a direct bearing on the subject matter of the program. As well, at the beginning of your presentation you must identify the learning objectives specific to your presentation which should also be inserted into your slides.

Your presentation requires a minimum of 25% of interactivity. You may choose a variety of formats for interactivity, e.g. case studies for the presentation, small group activities within workshops, or of course, question and answer periods. 

Feedback will be solicited from the participants and will include and evaluation of clarity, organization, value, achievement of learning objectives for each session. You will receive a summary of your evaluation following the event, for your CV and/or teaching and academic portfolio. 

Learning Objectives
All speakers must submit the learning objectives of their session. These will be included on the website and are required for the CPD applications. Please submit at least 3 specific learning objectives, in the following format (submit using Session Title and Learning Objectives Form above):

Session Description
Please submit a short description of the topic of your presentation in paragraph format. This will be included on the website to provide information to participants about your presentation. 

Audio-visual
The Plenary will be equipped with a full set up for powerpoint presentations (laptop and projector). Please bring your powerpoint presentation to the course on a USB flashdrive to load onto the laptop provided onsite. An a/v technician will be present to help load the presentations.
