2024-2025 Fellowship in Pulmonary Pathology- Dalhousie University

Description: The fellowship is a specialized training program designed to provide subspecialty training in pulmonary pathology for qualified candidates. Applications are invited for a one-year fellowship training in pulmonary pathology, commencing July 1, 2024. Compensation will be in accordance with a PGY6 level in Nova Scotia.


Duties and Responsibilities: Most of training will be allocated to clinical/diagnostic services, during which the fellow will be given supervision to develop and improve knowledge and skills in pulmonary pathology mainly under the senior pulmonary pathologist Dr. Zhaolin Xu’s mentoring. In addition, the fellow will participate in teaching and research activities, molecular diagnostics, Tumor Board Rounds, Divisional and Departmental Rounds. The fellow will be expected to participate in one or more independent research projects (clinicopathologic and/or translational) suitable for peer-review publication. The fellow will also be required to participate in routine surgical sign out to maintain experience in surgical pathology in general.


Required Qualifications: The applicants should have an overall academic/thoughtful-analytical
approach to pathology, a keen interest in pulmonary pathology, and good communication skills.
Requirements include an MD (or equivalent) degree with formal residency training in surgical
pathology from a reputable pathology residency program, certification from the Royal College of
Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent) and eligibility for registration/licensing with
the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia. The position is open to all qualified
candidates; however, priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada, and to trainees from Canadian residency programs.
