The pathology department at the James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre provides anatomic and clinical laboratory services to the region. The General Pathologist and/or Anatomical Pathologist position involves service provision in anatomic pathology and provision of leadership in one or more areas of laboratory practice. The successful candidate will join a team of 3 laboratory physicians and is required to have excellent skills in surgical pathology and cytopathology. Additional expertise in hematopathology, transfusion medicine, clinical chemistry, and microbiology will be considered favorably.

There are approximately 4500 yearly surgical pathology cases for and 500 yearly cytopathology cases. The caseload is divided equitably between three pathologists. There is a varied caseload, consisting of general surgical pathology cases, surgical oncology specimens, and gyne and non-gyne cytopathology cases. The autopsy service is also covered between the 3 pathologists.

Remuneration and Benefits:
• Salaried position: $232,700 – $262,720 + on-call payments.
• Pathology Bonus (paid out on anniversary date): Based upon Step of Payment – Step 1 - $50,000, Step 2 - $56,250, Step 3,4 and 5 - $60,000
• Retention Bonus: $8000 after 1 year, $16,000 after 2 years, $24,000 after 3 years
• Housing Allowance: $5000 after 12 months of service. 
• $40,000 relocation amt attached to a 2-year Return in Service or $20,000 attached to a 1-year Return in Service.

Skills required:
Medical Degree with specialist training in General Pathology or Anatomical Pathology. Applicants should have residency training completed in either of the following countries: in Canada, United States, Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Ireland, OR South Africa. Eligible for registration and license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador.
