Applications are invited for a one (1) year hospital-based fellowship in oncologic surgical pathology commencing July 1, 2020 within the Laboratory Medicine and Genetics Program of Trillium Health Partners. The Fellow will work with a group of nineteen (19) pathologists servicing a large community academic hospital with a regional cancer program. The Program has strong immunohistochemistry and flow cytometry facilities and hosts the regional molecular genetics laboratory.
The Fellow will learn in a framework of graduated responsibility, including signing out biopsies and large surgical cases. The Fellow will gain a wide exposure to oncologic pathology specimens including resection cases, cytology specimens, and referral cases, as well as intra-operative consultations. There will be a focus on diagnostic confidence building, workload management and communication. The Fellow will participate in multi-disciplinary cancer conferences along with regular intra-departmental case reviews and quality activities. The Fellow will be given an opportunity to participate in one or more research projects and will also assist in the undergraduate and postgraduate training programs. There will be opportunity to tailor the fellowship in areas of surgical pathology and cytopathology, if desired.
Minimum requirements include MD (or equivalent) degree; certification in anatomical pathology from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada; and registration for an independent practice license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. Postgraduate residents completing their final year training are encouraged to apply. This position is open to all qualified candidates; however, priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents of Canada.
