Gynecologic Oncologic Pathologist Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre is an academic health facility fully affiliated with the University of Toronto and a major teaching hospital within the Toronto Academic Health Sciences Network, training 5,000 student learners from over thirty health disciplines including 1,300 residents and fellows per year. We are inviting applications for the position of an Academic Pathologist, Clinician Teacher stream, at the rank of Assistant, Associate or full Professor.

The candidate must possess strong diagnostic expertise in gynecologic oncologic pathology. Additional expertise in breast pathology and/or cytopathology would be an asset. Demonstrated interest and track record of excellence in academic pathology, either in education or research will be favoured. The applicant must possess a medical degree and hold Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification in Anatomical Pathology, or equivalent, and be eligible for an independent license by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. The Division of Anatomic Pathology in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Molecular Diagnostics at Sunnybrook is a collegial, inter-professional team comprised of 17 pathologists and 50 combined pathology assistants, technologists, research and administrative staff.

Our Division is a fast-paced and efficient environment. Through our affiliation with the Odette Cancer Centre, we handle primary diagnosis and/or second reviews of complex malignant cases, with more than 30,000 surgical pathology and 20,000 cytopathology specimens per year. We pride ourselves on provision of pathology results that are accurate, timely and integrated into Sunnybrook’s clinical programs “When it matters most”. The successful applicant will thrive in an inter-professional oncology team, including participation in multi-disciplinary tumour boards and support of collaborative research. Responsibilities will include academic clinical practice primarily in gynecological pathology and secondarily in breast and/or cytopathology; participation in frozen section, autopsy, and on-call coverage; and educational and administrative duties as required by the Chief of the Department. The successful candidate will receive an academic appointment in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology at the University of Toronto, with rank commensurate with qualifications and experience, and will help foster excellence in academic pathology through active participation in the educational and research activities of the Sunnybrook and University Departments.
